About

Sixteen years ago, a small person with a lot of strange, vague ideas went to Japan. She was never the same.

If you’re here, you’ve probably worked it out that my first love is manga, and that’s what you’re going to hear about 80% of the time. The other 20% will be divided between J-Pop, anime music, anime and toys. Lots of beautiful, lovely, shiny toys. Oh, and there’ll probably be at least one or two mentions of yaoi. Yup, I’m also a fujoshi. (the back button on your browser totally works. Try it!) Don’t worry. The longer you hang around me, the more normal it seems. Sort of.

The Geekerella

I’m just your average thirty-one year old woman who used to live in a basement and spends most of her time reading manga. This is not to say I don’t have other interests. I enjoy jangly indie rock music with bleak lyrics, and also perky indie pop music with similarly bleak lyrics. I also like absurdist modern fiction and have been known to become addicted to certain young adult series whose titles all start with “H.” I am a practicing Jodoshinshu Buddhist. I particularly enjoy David Byrne, his music and his art. Sometimes I even seem like a normal person. Not for long, though.

MystyrE

The male half of a love story straight out of a shojo manga. Prefers American-style graphic novels but we don’t hold that against him. In fact, this means that he’s not only tolerant of my almost hoarder-like need to collect manga, he’s pretty much my enabler. We rarely leave a bookstore without buying at least one item, though it’s usually more. He also enjoys the bits and pieces of Japanese culture I introduce to him, particularly those associated with food. Current favorites include kitsune udon, Black Black gum, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Bleach.
