Dating Myself: Dragon Half

It has only the basic idea of a storyline, curvy girls who run around in the RPG version of a bikini and gauntlets and an ending theme that makes Lucky Star’s opening look like classical literature. No it’s not something they show after midnight at Dragon Con, it’s Dragon Half.

Dragon Half is the story of Mink, the product of the love affair between a red dragon and a famous swordsman, who is infatuated with Dick Saucer and will go to any lengths to see him. Then to meet him. Then to get him to fall for her. Like I said, it’s not a deep story. But it was one that I’d always use to kill some time waiting for friends, or to show those same friends when they assumed that Akira was the only anime out there.

Dating Myself: Ranma 1/2, the Movie

Sometimes, late at night (or early in the morning, depending on how you look at it), my mind suddenly finds things it shouldn’t. We have touched on this in previous posts, but this is no ordinary “holy wow, what was I watching/reading/singing” moment. This is the story of my AP English term paper.

Dating Myself: Chou Kuseninarisou!

Once again it starts with a tweet, this time asking about anime guilty pleasures. In a neverending attempt to remind myself just how old it is, my brain reaches waaaaaay in the back, fumbles on the shelf and comes up with the anime equivalent of a dusty can of Crystal Pepsi. Sparkly, sweet and of questionable quality even when it was new.

Dating Myself: Maris the Chojo

Quite some time ago, long before Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha, even before Urusei Yatsura, Takahashi Rumiko did a number of one-shot manga for different Shonen magazines. Maris the Chojo (ザ・超女)* was one of these early manga, about a super-strong alien girl forced to work menial jobs to pay for the numerous things she unintentionally broke on the job. Eager to get the reward money for saving – and possibly marrying – the only son of a family of quadrillionaires Maris sets out on yet another ill-fated adventure, and of course hilarity ensues.
