Higurashi Visual Novels

Stumbled across some news so awesome that I actually sat up and knocked my computer off my lap yesterday – it’s been reported and confirmed that MangaGamer.com** has acquired the license for the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novel franchise. Yes, the visual novels that started it all are finally going to be available in English!

The original visual novels (VN) featured over 60 hours of story, and the anime was only able to cover about 8 hours or so. Even with the length of the manga, there’s still a whole world of potential Higurashi goodness that we haven’t seen yet due to time and editing constraints. The VNs also represent Ryuukishi07′s original vision for the series, unedited for tv/manga, and character designs.

American Psycho: Death Note Movie?

It seems that Warner Brothers has acquired the rights to make an American Death Note live action movie. I swear I did a full-body shudder when I heard about this. Licensed – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

In possibly the best news I totally heard three days after it happened, Funimation has licensed the new Hagaren series, titling it Fullmetal Alchemist : Brotherhood. Yes, you heard that right, I’m excited about a series being licensed.

In the past, after series have gotten licensed it meant several horrible, horrible things. First was the dubbing. Granted, this wasn’t as much of a problem after DVDs came on the market but unless you were looking at a bigger title like Ranma 1/2 or Slayers, you were stuck with the dubs. Very. Bad. Dubs. Second was the localization. You haven’t lived until you’ve heard/seen someone use Hamasaki Ayumi interchangeably with Jennifer Lopez.
